Exploring India's Yachting Industry

 

On April 10, Batch 14 students of the MGLuxM program had an opportunity to make an exclusive visit to Blue Bay Marine, an esteemed luxury yacht company and India’s first and largest professional company engaged in offering yacht charter experiences.

Upon their arrival, the students were greeted by the visionary founders of Blue Bay Marine, Meherzad and Gautam. They provided insights into the intricate nuances of the Indian yachting market. Through their expertise, the students gained a profound understanding of the clientele's discerning preferences and distinctive demands.

Upon their arrival, the students were greeted by the visionary founders of Blue Bay Marine, Meherzad and Gautam. They provided insights into the intricate nuances of the Indian yachting market. Through their expertise, the students gained a profound understanding of the clientele's discerning preferences and distinctive demands.

Students were given a brief understanding of the diverse array of yachts available, each catering to specific needs and desires. From intimate gatherings to grand soirées, the yachts at Blue Bay Marine epitomise sophistication and luxury. As the students delved deeper, they were informed about the dominance of hourly charters, which form the cornerstone of the Indian industry.

The pinnacle of the visit was the students experiencing firsthand the lavish amenities aboard one of Blue Bay Marine's exquisite yachts. From plush interiors to state-of-the-art facilities, every aspect was soaked in the ambience of luxury.

Entertainment emerged as the frontrunner in demand, with a substantial 50% share. Following closely behind are family outings, capturing 30% of the market, as families seek to create unforgettable memories amidst the expanse of the ocean. Transportation needs, though less prevalent, still hold a significant 20% share, highlighting the versatility of yachts beyond mere leisure.

Students then learned about the diverse capacities of these floating vessels, ranging from intimate settings accommodating six individuals to grandiose vessels capable of hosting over 200 guests, crew included. This ensures a yacht for every occasion, whether an intimate rendezvous or a lavish gala. Mumbai and Goa emerged as the undisputed epicentres of the Indian yachting industry, jointly dominating an impressive 80% share of the market.

Students learnt a great deal about the business side of yachting and the minute details involved in offering upscale experiences to customers.

This visit to Blue Bay Marine was a transformative experience. It armed students with knowledge and admiration while helping them understand the complexities of the exclusive world of luxury yachting.
