Some courses teach strategy. This one changed how we think about it.

“Fun-based learning.”
That is how Dr Umesh Kothari, Assistant Dean GMBA & MGB at SP Jain Global, described his teaching philosophy, and it could not be truer. Over nine incredible days, our class experienced what it really means to think beyond competition and create something truly new through the Blue Ocean Strategy course.

Issue 1: Where Strategy Comes Alive

Every great idea starts with a “what if.” StratBuzz was born out of that same spirit - what if strategy wasn’t locked in textbooks, but debated, challenged, and reimagined by curious minds?
Over the past few months, this student-led initiative at SP Jain Global has transformed into a vibrant strategy lab, where business frameworks meet real-world complexity, and where consulting firms wrestle with daily questions - Who is your real customer? When does diversification destroy value? Should you enter a high-growth market when the context isn’t ready? -are confronted head-on by students.

If someone told me a few years ago that a boy from Beawar, Rajasthan, would one day study across Singapore and Dubai, make the Dean’s List thrice, and lead student initiatives at one of the world’s most reputed global business schools, I’d have probably laughed. But that’s exactly what happened, and every challenge along the way was a lesson in evolution.

When I joined the Master of Global Business (MGB) program at SP Jain Global, I expected academic rigour and international exposure. What I got instead was something way more powerful: perspective. Over the course of a year, I lived and studied in Singapore, London, and Dubai. Three cities that don’t just teach business, they breathe it. Each one flipped a different switch in me: how I think, how I work, and how I see the world.

In the burgeoning field of data science, academic programs are multiplying at a dizzying rate. Bootcamps promise proficiency in Python and machine learning in twelve weeks, while university degrees boast of producing job-ready graduates. Curricula are often packed with the latest tools and techniques: TensorFlow, PySpark, neural networks, and NLP. Yet, amidst this race to equip students with practical skills, a critical componen remains academic research and publication. The role of research in the Bachelor of Data Science program at SP Jain Global is not merely an academic exercise; it is the unseen engine that transforms a technician from a tool-user into a scientist, a problem-solver, and an innovator.

When you hear the title "Data Scientist," what comes to mind? Perhaps you envision a hoodie-clad genius working at a startup in Bangalore or in a giant company in Silicon Valley, optimising social media algorithms or fine-tuning search engine results. For years, the narrative has been that data is the new oil, and tech companies are the refineries. But this perspective is dangerously narrow. The reality is that data is not just oil; it’s the very currency of modern decision-making, and its value extends far beyond the digital walls of Big Tech.

When I embarked on my Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) at SP Jain School of Global Management, I was certain the experience would go above-and-beyond that of a regular degree. What I never imagined was how much it would impact my classroom, professional, and personal outlook. The curriculum is designed to not only to teach students about business concepts but also to instil global exposure, cultural sensitivity, and experiential learning — all essential skills in today's globalised world.

Hi, my name is Trisha Mukherjee, and I am a final-year student in the Bachelor of Data Science (BDS) program at SP Jain School of Global Management. It is with immense pride that I share the journey of my research paper, which was recently accepted for presentation at the prestigious IEEE ASIANCON 2025 conference. From the initial concept to the final presentation, this experience has been a significant milestone in my academic career, and I am grateful for the support I received along the way.
