As a budding retail strategy planner, the Retail Summit was exactly the place I wanted to be at! During my time in Singapore, I wanted to take part in the marathon there. Unfortunately, I couldn’t because we had an exam scheduled the day after the marathon. I happened to once tell one of our professors, Dr. William Thomson, about my interest in running and how I was thinking of running a marathon. He told me how I should consider running the Sydney marathon since it was scheduled to take place while I was in Sydney and there were no exams scheduled close to the date of the marathon.

A few weeks ago, I attended the first ever Retail Summit in the Middle East at Atlantis – The Palm, Dubai. The summit brought together over 900 senior global retail professionals from different parts of the world.

In the beginning of November 2018, when I applied to Asia World Model United Nations (AWMUN) in Bangkok, I barely had any idea of what to expect. Imagine my surprise and excitement when I got my acceptance letter the very next day! Unfortunately, my excitement left me very soon, when I realised that not only did I not have enough money for this, I didn’t have enough time to earn the $800 either. A few days later, I decided to try my luck and ask the Global Learning Team (Nathaniel and Jamal) for advice and help, and they were so glad to help me. I can’t stress enough how thankful I am for their support, help, and understanding. They were the ones who gave me the courage to take up this experience.

Studying abroad is an amazing opportunity for anyone who has the chance. Whether it be a 6-week summer program or a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate program, the experiences you have stay with you for life. Looking back now, I have enjoyed the thrills of living overseas as an Indian.
