When students ask me why they should study data science here in Sydney rather than anywhere else, I usually turn the question around: what do you actually need, as a data scientist in training, that a city can give you? Not just lecture halls and Wi-Fi — every city has those. You need proximity to real industry.

Every year, when admissions season opens, I find myself having a familiar conversation.
