So, what makes him so popular among the SP Jain faculty, staff, and students? Let’s find out more about Prof. Weber’s life inside and outside the SPJ classroom.
Could you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hello Jaguars! I joined SP Jain more than 11 years ago as the first professor in the BBA program. It has been an exciting journey for me to be part of the founding team that has turned the ambitious idea of creating multi-city undergraduate programs on different continents into reality. I simply love the diversity at SP Jain – having taught Jaguars from close to 90 countries over the years – and teach our liberal arts subjects including ‘World Culture’. While I am German by nationality, I grew up in England and have studied at Oxford, Cambridge and Peking University.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I look for ‘sleepers’. No, I am not referring to students that need to catch up on sleep in class. I am referring to artworks – in particular paintings – that have been undervalued and mislabelled due to an expert’s oversight and consequently been undersold at auction. This hobby of mine combines a love for art, research and history with good old fashioned detective work and treasure hunting.
Could you tell us a fun fact about you? What would students be surprised to find out about you?
I used to be a volunteer museum docent for eight years at the Singapore Art Museum, Singapore History Museum, Asian Civilisations Museum and Peranakan Museum.
If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes in life or worry too much about what other people might think. The more you get out of your comfort zone, the more you grow. What is important is that you are always true to yourself.
Is there a quote or saying that you live your life by?
A billionaire is a person that touches a billion lives.
