Little did we know that a mail from our Global Learning and Student Life office about a simple competition would turn into a 5-month journey of our potential business idea. We were asked to submit a rough idea of our business for the HULT Prize Summit 2020 which would be evaluated among thousands of participants.

Industry Interface Projects offer practical learning experiences to our students and this helps them translate abstract knowledge into practice. To help students gain the best real-life industry experience, the scope and deliverables of the projects are finalized in consultation with SP Jain’s corporate partners. These are strategy-focused projects where our students work as consultants on real-life challenges faced by companies and recommend business strategies by synthesizing the program learning outcomes.

I started my career as an animator back in 2012. But after spending 2 years in the VFX industry, I realised that this is not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Luckily, I was able to find a few job opportunities that put me on an interesting career path – product management. I know what you might be thinking. Back when I started my career in the Life Insurance industry as a 20-year-old, I did not realise that I would be able to grow so much in just over half a decade even without a formal business degree. 6 years and 5 promotions later, I was heading a team of 20 Managers across 3 states, and realised that I might just have what it takes. A few years later, after a lot of morning classes, weekend preparations and with the help of some amazing faculty and administration, I managed to complete my Bachelor of Legislative Law (LLB) as well. This was going to be my entry ticket to the career of my dreams. My journey had just started.

Quality leadership, engagement and culture are at the heart of SP Jain School of Global Management. I write this as it all started with a simple email from our President, Nitish Jain, triggered by a conversation with our Global Director (Counseling & Coaching Center) based in Dubai, Bijal Oza, on how we should use this lockdown period amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic for doing good things like building immunity, learning something or looking after elderly people.

During my routine performance evaluation meeting back in 2018, my boss asked me a seemingly simple question – ‘Where do you see yourself in a year? What plans have you made for your personal growth?’ It was when I heard this question that something struck me – I had become so comfortable in my life that I had stopped thinking about the next stage. I had been in the same company for 9 years, being unaware of the stage when I stopped adding value to the role and vice versa. Many of us go through this phase, don’t we? We get a full-time job and once we get settled in the role, we get so accustomed to our daily routine that we stop thinking ‘What next?’
