Our Mission
The Counselling & Coaching Centre at SP Jain supports the goal of crafting global leaders by focusing on providing support services for personal, psychological, academic, cultural, and leadership development of our students.
Our Vision
The Counselling & Coaching Centre is committed to enhance our students’ overall well-being and personality development within the broader global and cultural scenario.
Coaching
Coaching involves encouraging self-reflection to unlock a student’s potential to maximise his or her own performance by helping them to learn from experience.
Counselling
Professional counselling is a professional relationship that will empower students to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals. Our counsellors work with our students on strategies to overcome obstacles and personal challenges that they are facing. Counselling is a collaborative effort between the counsellor and a student.
Professional counsellors can help students identify goals and potential solutions to problems which cause emotional turmoil; seek to improve communication and coping skills; strengthen self-esteem; and promote behaviour change and optimal mental health. The counsellor uses listening and questioning to build self-awareness and self-confidence in the student. The goal is to help the student deal with something difficult.
Coaching does not focus on the past – like counselling may. The coach acts as a catalyst for students to gain a deeper understanding of themselves.
Mentoring
A mentor is a wise and trusted guide and advisor. The mentor is the teacher that shares their experience while bringing the “mentee” up the ranks. The role of the mentor is to build capability. The developmental mentor helps the learner discover their own wisdom by encouraging them to work towards career goals or develop self-reliance.
A consultant is an expert who is called on for professional or technical advice or opinions. They are relied on to understand the problem and present solutions.
Interim Chair
Dr. John Loxton served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at Macquarie University from 1996-2006 and at the University of Western Sydney from 2007-2008, with responsibilities for the strategic development of academic activities in teaching and learning, quality assurance in teaching and learning, internationalisation and partnerships.
