As the coronavirus outbreak continues to create a global economic slowdown, students hoping to start their MBA journey this year face a lot of uncertainty. Is an MBA degree worth the investment right now? What benefits will one get from pursuing a global business degree now while the world around us tries to overcome the pandemic? We spoke to a few of our Executive MBA students from recent intakes to understand why they believe that a part-time MBA was the best investment for them this year. The increasing pace of financial services is now responded by the industry’s necessity to upgrade. This has driven the experts to deduce that the finance, in today’s scenario, acts more as a facilitator than the purveyor of financial products and services. In such scenario, the amalgamation of Finance and Technology (FinTech) is the hottest sector to be in, thanks to enabling technologies like Blockchain, API, Big data analytics, AI/ML and Internet of Things. Of these, Blockchain holds the biggest promise.

While teaching in class, I realize that when students are given ownership of their learning, the outcome is more positive. I ask students to explore, why is it important to learn skills such as Emotional Intelligence, for example, and once they have the basis for introspection, they come to class with an open mind. An environment where students are the center of their learning helps them become independent learners and empowers them to make decisions on their own. This ultimately prepares them for “real world” skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and negotiation skills. Of course, as educators, it is important to act as facilitators as coaches, and encourage better decision-making.
