After earning a degree in pharmacy and starting a career with a leading pharmaceutical chain, Nabeel Rahman (EMBA 2020) soon realised that this might not be his true calling. Within a few months, Nabeel decided to make a change in his life and move into a field that interested him immensely – Supply Chain. 6 years and several promotions down, Nabeel is currently a Supply Chain Manager with the Abu Dhabi Medical Devices Company – Madeco.

As a young 18-year old who was just getting out of high school, I had two options in front of me. Do I enrol for a degree program, which is popularly known as the prerequisite to success? Or, do I accept the job offer I had just received from an international logistics provider in Melbourne, my hometown? Although it was a very difficult decision to make, I chose the latter - and I feel that has made all the difference in my life.

I started my career as an animator back in 2012. But after spending 2 years in the VFX industry, I realised that this is not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Luckily, I was able to find a few job opportunities that put me on an interesting career path – product management. I know what you might be thinking. During my routine performance evaluation meeting back in 2018, my boss asked me a seemingly simple question – ‘Where do you see yourself in a year? What plans have you made for your personal growth?’ It was when I heard this question that something struck me – I had become so comfortable in my life that I had stopped thinking about the next stage. I had been in the same company for 9 years, being unaware of the stage when I stopped adding value to the role and vice versa. Many of us go through this phase, don’t we? We get a full-time job and once we get settled in the role, we get so accustomed to our daily routine that we stop thinking ‘What next?’
