Bridging Classroom Knowledge with Global Tax Practice: My EY Internship Journey

Stepping into EY as an intern in the TAX – International Tax and Transaction Services (ITTS) – Transfer Pricing function was more than just an industry experience—it was an eye-opening journey into the intricate world of international taxation. Stepping into EY as an intern in the TAX – International Tax and Transaction Services (ITTS) – Transfer Pricing function was more than just an industry experience—it was an eye-opening journey into the intricate world of international taxation. My project, “Benchmarking in Advisory”, placed me at the intersection of financial analysis, compliance, and strategic advisory, where every detail mattered.

From day one, I immersed myself in understanding Transfer Pricing (TP), not just as a concept, but as a critical component of global business operations. I worked on live client case studies, applying TP concepts to real-world situations. This included performing benchmarking analysis, managing large-scale data compilation, and preparing precise documentation to support assessments. I also conducted Cost Plus (CP) workings and calculated TP margins across multiple transactions, sharpening my technical and analytical skills.

What fascinated me most was exploring global TP regulations. Comparing Indian tax frameworks with international standards gave me a deeper appreciation of the complexity of cross-border compliance and the nuances of regulatory variations. I even gained end-to-end exposure to TP assessment review processes, including escalation pathways to the Dispute Resolution Panel (DRP) and the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT)—offering a rare insider view into how advisory transitions into dispute resolution.

Beyond Technical Learning: Building Professional Skills

Beyond technical expertise, the internship was a masterclass in professional collaboration. I worked closely with experienced tax professionals, learning how diverse perspectives can shape effective solutions. The environment pushed me to think critically, communicate clearly, and adapt quickly—skills that are as essential as technical know-how in a fast-paced industry.

How SP Jain Global’s BBA Curriculum Helped Me Succeed

Looking back, I can clearly see how the BBA curriculum at SP Jain Global laid the foundation for my success at EY. Having already worked with income statements and balance sheets during my coursework, I was able to approach margin calculations and financial data analysis with confidence. This prior exposure meant that I could focus my energy on mastering new, complex concepts rather than starting from scratch. It was a seamless blend of academic preparation and practical application.

This internship was more than a professional milestone, it was a transformation. It gave me the confidence to navigate complex financial regulations, the skills to deliver high-quality work under pressure, and the vision to see how my role fits into the bigger picture of global business. I am deeply grateful to EY for this invaluable experience and to SP Jain Global for equipping me with the knowledge and skills that turned learning into real-world impact.
