Journey to perfection…

Gayatri Thampi, GMBA (Batch  of 2012) describes herself as a typical Bombay girl from a typical suburban Bombay family where both parents possess advanced degrees and are engaged in productive professions. Her mother is a Manager with a leading nationalised bank whereas her father is an entrepreneurial businessperson with several start-up ventures to his credit. And her sister is an image consultant engaged with several leading corporations for providing training on the basics of corporate etiquettes, grooming, social skills and image makeovers. In Gayatri’s case, for her undergraduate degree, she decided to pursue BMM (Bachelors of Mass Media) from a reputed Indian college and soon after completion, took up the opportunity to work in the media related domain in sales and marketing with a start-up. She says that “there was always something about thinking big and starting small that always intrigued” her.

Having completed his BSc in Accounting from University of Maryland (USA), Kunal Jain had the impending decision at the back of his mind to choose a Master’s program that would consolidate his learning further. Therefore, after graduating, he joined KPMG in in New York to pursue a corporate career path. It was later, after completing three years at the firm, when he joined the Global MBA (Finance) program in 2009 to increase his knowledge base with the higher nuances of global business management.

Do it for the Experience!

Many (prospective) students may have this certain bit of apprehension before joining this course, as to should I take up the offer, is it worth the price, will it actually be able to cover up the entire MBA portion in a year. I was no stranger to these and I took the plunge. Let me tell you why I will not regret it for the rest of my life. Believe me when I tell you that this course has a lot to offer. What eventually matters is how YOU make the most of it. The whole idea of a master’s program is to make you self-sufficient and self-reliant. This means – DO NOT EXPECT SPOON FEEDING (this is the difference between your graduate school and a B-school). In terms of the study material, it is up to the mark and you will feel burdened. Burdened by the SBR’s (these three letters will haunt your life), CRP/ALPs (the next 3 to haunt), submissions, deliverables, etc.

Chetan Sodhani, an S P Jain MBA alumnus (from the class of 2009), belongs to a conservative Marwari family (a business community in India) who own a logistics and textile machine parts manufacturing business.
