Ankit Agarwal, SP Jain Global alumnus (GMBA & PGPM, 2008), shares his journey to founding and leading Delta Autocorp, one of India’s fastest-growing EV brands. He reflects on the impact of cross-industry experience, lessons from SP Jain Global, and the importance of solving real-world problems.

1. Can you share your journey to leading Delta Autocorp?

My journey has always been about curiosity and solving real-world problems. Before founding Deltic, I co-founded several ventures and worked across equity research, logistics, and real estate industries that shape everyday life. These experiences gave me a strong foundation in building efficient, scalable businesses. The idea for Delta Autocorp emerged from a deep, unmet mobility need in India’s Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Today, leading Deltic isn’t just a title—it’s a commitment to transforming India’s mobility landscape.

2. What drew you to the EV industry?

The EV space blends disruption with sustainability, which aligns deeply with my values. My finance background trained me to assess risk and potential, while logistics and real estate taught me execution and scale. We didn’t raise external capital for years, yet grew profitably. That experience made me confident in navigating a capital-intensive sector like EVs with a clear, value-first lens.

3. How have you scaled across 25+ states while ensuring quality?

We focused on depth, not just breadth. Our dealer-first approach empowers partners with training, digital tools, financing, and a strong product mix. Operationally, we use tech to track service times and customer satisfaction. With standardised SOPs, a robust backend, and a customer-centric mindset, we’ve built a reliable, scalable system.

4. What did the IPO mean for you?

The IPO was a milestone, both humbling and validating. As a bootstrapped company for nine years, raising nearly ₹12,170 crore in applications reflected the trust we’ve built through consistent performance and customer focus. It gives us the capital to invest in R&D, scale our EV Hubs, and pursue global partnerships. Personally, it reinforced my belief: build for value, not just valuation.

5. How has cross-industry experience shaped your leadership?

Each sector taught me something vital: capital discipline from real estate, agility from logistics, and analytical thinking from finance. At Deltic, we combine the precision of manufacturing, logistics agility, and a consumer brand's customer focus. This hybrid approach helps us stay nimble and avoid traditional silos.

6. Where do you see Deltic in the next 3–5 years?

We aim to become Bharat’s most trusted EV brand. Our focus is to launch category-defining two- and three-wheelers, expand EV Hubs, and localise components. We’re also moving into vertical integration—COCO showrooms and a lithium battery venture with industry veterans. What excites me most is EVs' potential to democratise mobility and connect with fintech and energy ecosystems. Deltic is shaping that future.

7. How did SP Jain Global influence your journey?

SP Jain Global taught me structured thinking and leadership under uncertainty, giving me a global mindset. It shaped my transition from engineering to finance to industry. One meaningful connection was with Mr Kishore Parthasarthy, whom I met during my time there. Today, he serves as an independent director on Deltic’s board. He is also the Director of Product Marketing for APAC at Meta — a collaboration that exemplifies the long-term value of the relationships forged at the institute.

8. Advice for SP Jain Global students and grads?

Don’t just chase trends, solve real problems. Learn the nuts and bolts: cash flow, operations, customer behaviour. Stay curious, be grounded, and bring sincerity to everything you do. That’s how you don’t just succeed, you lead.
