SP Jain School of Global Management hosted a guest session with Dhanushkodi Sivanandhan, Maharashtra’s former Director General of Police and founder of an NGO, on the role of NGOs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The session was organised for the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) students of the Mumbai cohort on April 6, 2021. It was facilitated by Professor Shrinivas Shikaripurkar (Adjunct Faculty at SP Jain) as part of his subject ‘Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility’.
During the session, Mr Sivanandhan highlighted how NGOs can remain committed to social responsibility amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He spoke about the different sectors wherein NGOs can extend their assistance and aid.
Mr Sivanandhan, who runs the NGO Roti Bank to provide nourishment to the impoverished, continued the session by sharing insights on the various activities undertaken by Roti Bank during the COVID-19 crisis for many vulnerable communities including migrant workers. He emphasised the importance of NGOs in a developing country like India, where a major section of the population is grappling with issues such as unemployment, poverty and hunger.
