On the 17th of October 2016, S P Jain embarked on a new milestone with the start of its first batch of Masters in Global Luxury Goods and Services Management in collaboration with MIP- Politecnico Di Milano Graduate School of Business, at S P Jain’s Mumbai Campus.

An academic tie between the two prestigious business schools was made, based on the shared belief that tomorrow’s market leaders in luxury management must have a global reach and knowledge. As an emerging market, India has become the prime destination for luxury brands, which is the key driver behind this course.

The student orientation program was held to acquaint the students with the academic aspects as well as what is expected of them in the light of the curriculum. Attended by both students and parents, the ceremony was hosted by Miss Soumya Shetty, and it began with the traditional Indian ceremony of lighting of the lamp by the course directors - Dr. Radhika Narayanan, S.P. Jain and Dr. Alessandro Brun, MIP and two student body representatives.

This was followed by an induction speech by Dr. Radhika Narayanan. On behalf of the school, she welcomed the students and shared elaborately the various workshops, guest lectures, assignments, and internship opportunities that the course entails. Dr. Narayan profusely thanked the Corporate Communication and Creative Team, the Digital Marketing Team, and the Admissions Team, without whose suport, the event would not have been a grand success.

Dr. Alessandro Brun briefed students on their study term at MIP, Milan. He spoke about the genesis of the institute, and how from its technical roots, it has evolved and grown in the field of education. Dr. Brun cited how MIP has been one of the pioneers in this field of luxury management; with years of experience and having good connections within the luxury industry. He also elaborated on the various industrial visits and field trips, which the students will make to gain knowledge and insight on the makings of a luxury brand.
In conclusion, Dr. Brun conducted an interactive online activity, by asking students to describe their concept of ‘luxury’ in one word. The submissions made a word cloud on screen, on the term ‘luxury’. This interesting exercise displayed an insight of how as Indians, we perceive luxury— and gave the students a sneak-peek of what his classes would be all about!

A Shloka paying ode to our teachers, the knowledge imparted by them and a student oath concluded the orientation. To commemorate this day, there was a formal group photograph clicked of the first batch of Global Luxury Goods & Services Management students as well as the course directors. This was then followed by a high-tea session hosted to welcome the first batch of the program.
