A talk by Mark Thirlwell, Chief Economist Austrade on the topic ‘Is the Great Convergence over and Done?’ was held at the Mumbai campus of the School on 2nd March, 2016 and was organized in collaboration with Austrade Mumbai and the Australia-New Zealand Business Association of India [ANZBAI]. Welcoming Mark, Emily Menon of ANZBAI and Amanda Hodges of Austrade said that it was pleasure to co-host the event at the Mumbai campus of the School.

Analyzing the volatility of the global economy, Mark demonstrated how the Australian economy had weathered the shocks. Mark argues that a key feature of the global economic landscape is rapid catch-up growth – convergence – by some of the world’s leading emerging economies. During the course of his presentation, Mark shared his thoughts on how the conclusion of the negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement between India and Australia could positively impact bilateral trade and investment relations between the two countries.

Amit Dasgupta, Head of Mumbai campus, congratulated Mark for his thought-provoking talk and hoped that such collaborative speaking programmes would position the School as an important thought-platform in Mumbai.
