MGB students specializing in Global Finance visited the Dubai Financial Market, the leading financial market across the region, on 15th December 2016, as a part of their Global Learning Day.

To understand Dubai’s financial market, visiting DFM was crucial, for it is the first financial market to have offered its shares through an IPO in the Middle East, and this reflects the leading role played by the Emirate of Dubai in selling the shares of governmental institutions in the region. Its ongoing efforts and strategic initiatives have further reinforced Dubai as a centre of excellence in this part of the world and has enhanced its leading position as a powerful capital market hub, which embraces the best international practices to meet the evolving needs of its investors locally and internationally.

Students learnt that DFM operates as a secondary market for the trading of securities issued by public shareholding companies, bonds issued by federal or local governments, local public institutions and mutual funds as well as other local or foreign DFM approved financial instruments.

The DFM industry visit included a guided tour and interaction with relevant DFM speakers who shared an overview of DFM, DFM Trading, Marketing & Business Development, DFM Clearing and Settlements, and DFM Strategy.

Student Testimonials:

“The session at DFM was very informative with details on its operations, how stocks are listed and it's IT operations. I found it very interesting to learn how market surveillance takes place at DFM, and various departments of disclosure department and listing departments in DFM.” – Student, MGB Global Finance

"As a global finance student in Dubai, visiting DFM and understanding the intricate functioning it plays is a must and I’m glad I did." – Student, MGB Global Finance
