SHRM^®'s History and Mission

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM^®) was founded in 1948 by identifying the need for an organization to represent the people profession. Their goal was to provide continued professional development opportunities, promote national networking, and to advance the interests of a profession they recognized as being in transition. As an influential voice, SHRM^® is committed in promoting the human resource space to ensure that it remains an invaluable strength in developing and executing organizational strategy.

The SHRM^® network today, has individual member strength of about 225,000 in over 125 countries, with more than 575 affiliated chapters in the United States and associate representations in several countries across the globe.
