S P Jain participates in welcoming Her Excellency, the Honorable President of India to the Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) |

November 24, 2010 witnessed the visit to the DIAC, Dubai, by the first woman-President of India, Smt Prathiba Devi Singh Patil, who addressed around 1000 students and academia of four eminent Indian institutions of higher education in Dubai. The event took place at the Dubai Men's College Auditorium and was hosted by the Indian Consul General's office and DIAC. The eminent personalities who graced the occasion:
Professor Christopher Abraham, Head of Dubai campus and Senior Vice-President, Institutional Development of S P Jain School of Global Management (S P Jain) spoke on the legacy of India with regard to some of the oldest and most respected universities in the world, including the Nalanda University. "Today, the wheel of time and destiny has brought a very interesting confluence. Amidst the beautiful desert sands of the visionary city of Dubai, here we are, four of India's best institutions of higher learning, showcasing India's educational excellence", he proudly said. His references to the uninterrupted 10,000 year old Indian legacy, India being the 5th largest economic power in the world, the nation that gave the world astronomy and the number system, including zero, and a nation that had the earliest school of medicine known to mankind, received appreciation and applause from the audience. In her address, Smt Prathiba Patil said that she was privileged to be amidst the leading Indian institutions in Dubai and was pleased to note that the students received unique knowledge in the global context. She emphasized that students should be brand ambassadors of their home country through their work and values. She praised the efforts of the DIAC in promoting Indian education in Dubai and the UAE. Students of S P Jain rendered a scintillating theme-dance entitled, The Evolution of the Indian Woman, which showcased the Indian woman from the days of yore to the contemporary generation, and took them through a music and mime extravaganza which graphically highlighted the rise of the modern Indian women to a venerable position of respect. Through a moving backdrop presentation, the powerful visuals highlighted how she was conquering the highest offices in the all walks of life, including the global corporate world and the political arena. The three minute performance which was mesmersing and spellbinding received a thunderous accolade from one and all.
