S P Jain's 'Got Talent 2011' a hit with campus crowd in Singapore

The evening of November 24th 2011 started with a dance and it ended with a dance. Between these enticing performances, more talent was flaunted at the S P Jain’s ‘Got Talent.’ A sandwich of an entertainment experience was devoured over two-hours. Here are the fillings:

Menaka wowed the crowd with her opening number and proved that classical music and dance is not dead. Avni demonstrated true talent by splendidly singing a cappella when the music failed to support her piece. The “aww” moment of the night, however, was when Nishant Store and Araj Mohandas came onstage to play guitar and perform “Chill,” a song Nishant wrote for his band-mate, Anirudh, who will be leaving for a semester in an exchange program.

Bo, dancing to Michael Jackson, had the audience’s heads turning. In addition, Bo sketched a masterpiece portrait of the King of Pop while dancing! With the brushes too much of an art cliché, Bo further impressed the crowd by using his hands (palm and fingers and everything) as makeshift paintbrushes to finish the work off.

To save the evening from technical glitches, there were magicians and illusionists on hand to make it look easy. The Theater Club had the whole audience rocking back and forth in laughter as they imitated to perfection, with the help of props, S P Jain professors and students.

Honorine, Patience, and a guest, dazzled the crowd with African inner body beat and dance moves. Rashmi, Spruha, Aquilia, and Eshita had the men Beggin’ as they hit the stage with some Jazz Dance to Madcon.

What kind of S P Jain’s ‘Got Talent’ would it be without our Jaywalk performing? The Jaywalk band (Nishant and Atharv on the guitar, Billy, a kid on our SPJ block, on the keyboard, Anirudh on the drums, and Menaka rocking the vocals) performed two songs. Especially well received was “Drive” by Incubus.

The event would not have been complete without Anny and Aurelie teasing the crowd, raising their blood pressure and the heat with their solo belly dance moves. The duo was later joined by Agustina and Virginia to twist, turn, and thump to Shakira’s “Hips Don’t Lie.”

The penultimate number was an acappella by Aquilia and Co, and they sang Smash Mouth’s “I’m a Believer” and made it feel complete with just their voices and the snaps of their fingers.

And finally, the finale: Bollywood dance.  In four minutes Ainyavi Ainvayi, Dhinka Chika, Zor Ka Jhatka, and Sheila ki Jawaani fit in four different songs. In this number, the guys also got to show off their stuff. Since the dancers were a mix of men and women, the crowd received a dazzling, impressive and cheerful end the night’s event.

So that was the sandwich with great filling. S P Jain’s ‘Got Talent,’ indeed.
