The inaugural S P Jain - Supply Chain and Logistics Group (SCLG) Industry Forum 2011 has been hailed a success with over 100 delegates across the Middle East supply chain and transportation sector in attendance. The post noon event, which took place at S P Jain's campus in Academic City, Dubai was jointly organized by S P Jain and Supply Chain & Logistics Group (SCLG) Middle East chapter.
The event included talks from eminent speakers and a panel discussion with high-ranking officials from TNT, Frost & Sullivan and SCLG on the theme of "Challenges and Opportunities for Supply Chain Professionals in Middle East"
To start proceedings, an opening address was delivered by Professor Christopher Abraham, Head of S P Jain's Dubai Campus. He gave a glimpse of S P Jain's journey, right from its inception in 2004 to being the youngest B-School to be ranked amongst the World's Top 100 Global Management Schools by Financial Times.
After an insightful opening by Professor Christopher, Mr. Nigel Moore, Managing Director of Logistics Recruitment Middle East and Africa proceeded with his keynote address in which he gave a deep insight in to the Logistics and Supply Chain sector in Middle East. He discussed the concerns of the market, the growth potential, the existing gap in the talent pool and also gave some excellent tips to help students develop and align themselves to the market needs.
Followed by Mr. Moore's in-depth address was the highlight of the evening - The panel discussion. The discussion was moderated by Mr. V.G. Ramakrishnan- Senior Director, Logistics, Frost and Sullivan and the panel included Mr. Iyad Moussa - The Operations, Gateway & Hub Director at TNT L
ogistics, Mr. Jinendra Sancheti - The Regional Managing Director for TNT Middle East and Africa region and Dr. Rajiv Aserkar - Professor, Logistics and Supply Chain Management at S P Jain. A number of burning issues were discussed and reflected upon by the panelists that broadened the horizon of learning for the students. The panelists shared their own journey in the industry and clarified many myths; such as hindrances during career change, relevance of past experience, etc. The panel discussion brought out many of the finer points that may have been overlooked in class-room discussions and debates on topics which students could never have thought had affected the logistics industry to such a large magnitude. The impact could clearly be seen in the enthusiastic response by the audience in question and answer session.
After the lively discussion, the Founder of the Supply Chain and Logistics Group - Mr. Shashi Shekhar and Professor Christopher Abraham presented mementos to the panelists and guests for their contribution and the event was concluded with a networking dinner, where students and other supply chain professionals had an opportunity to interact with the who's who of the industry and create an identity for themselves in the world of Logistics and Supply Chain.
The S P Jain - SCLG Industry Forum, 2011 was indeed an event worth attending. The event gave both industry experts with diverse backgrounds in the supply chain and logistics industry and students from S P Jain a unique opportunity to mingle and understand current trends in the market and the competencies required to become a leader in this field.
