Dr. Rajiv Aserkar, Professor, Logistics and Supply Chain Management and Mr. Nihar Kumthekar, Academic Manager, Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management from theS P Jain School of Global Management attended and actively participated in a day-long conference on “Leaders in Logistics” in Dubai. 7th December, 2011
Dr. Aserkar made a presentation on the topic “Recruitment, Retention and Education” emphasizing the need to pay more attention to these three crucial areas in order to have the right people with the right skills in the right jobs. He was also a part of the panel that discussed this issue at length. His co-panelists included Dr. Satish Mapara, Shipping and Legal consultant, Globe Apex Management Consultants, Mr. Wael Aggan, President and CEO, Trade Merit and Mr. Sean Bradley, Managing Director and Founder, Revere General Trading. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Shashi Shekhar, Founder and Group President, SCLG. A lively Q&A session followed where the audience raised pertinent questions on related issues.
This panel discussion was a part of an industry conference organized by ITP Business Publications- the publishers of Logistics (Middle East) on the 7th of December in Dubai. The event brought together CEOs, MDs, VPs, Logistics Heads and other industry leaders from Government, Private Organizations and Educational Institutes operating in the region. Some of the topics that were discussed included “UAE Free Zones- competing on the world stage”, “Aviation Infrastructure and Cargo Security”, “What the Client Wants, Identifying opportunities for growth in the emerging markets in the MENA region and how to manage and adapt to the political changes” and “Recruitment, Retention and Education”.
The conference was an excellent networking forum that brought together the region’s logistics professionals to benchmark operations, brainstorm ideas, and overcome the challenges facing the industry. Being a part of this event allowed the faculty from S P Jain to showcase the fact that as an academic institution, we are in constant touch with the industry, are aware of its issues and play an important role in its development through the process of imparting education and training for this crucial sector.
