S P Jain organizes the Global Dream Run - a marathon for a noble cause

On Sunday, March 27th 2011, the first ever milestone event was held by the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) students at S P Jain Singapore - the GLOBAL DREAM RUN. Generally, a number of marathons are held in Singapore on a regular basis; however the Global Dream Run was the first of its kind organized fully by an academic institution in Singapore. The core committee for the run comprised all first year BBA students along with over 45 volunteers involving the BBA students, MBA students and faculty and staff of S P Jain.

The purpose of the Global Dream Run was to encourage participants to show support for children suffering from Cancer. The event raised funds and awareness for the Children's Cancer Foundation and brought in successful product sponsors through organizations such as UNIFEM, L'Oreal, Adidas, Coca Cola, Sanuk and Timbuk2.

The Global Dream Run was a free 7 km long competitive run with no registration fee. It started at the Science Park and continued through the scenic trails of Hort Park while ending at the S P Jain's campus. Since this was a "closed" fundraiser as directed by the Children's Cancer Foundation, participation was solely by invitation. The event was publicized widely through facebook, skype, emails targeting various high schools, universities, fitness centers and the running associations in Singapore.

The first Global Dream Run was a very successful event with participation of 85 runners, comprised all age groups and participants from a diverse range of institutes and the local community. The Former Dean of the MBA program, Prof John Davis was one of the volunteers who participated in the event and finished fifth overall. Since it was a competitive run, the following prizes were allotted: First Place ($1,000 prize), Second Place ($500 worth of Products from Timbuk 2 and Sanuk) and Third Place (6-month membership from the Fitness Network). The pioneer BBA students undeniably wrote a new legacy in S P Jain's chapter by organizing this event and have planned to make this a yearly tradition at S P Jain. The institution is expecting the Global Dream Run 2012 to be a much bigger event involving more participation.
