S P Jain Dubai launches the Council of Middle East Marketing Professionals (CMEMP) in the U.A.E

S P Jain Dubai successfully launched the Council of Middle East Marketing Professionals (CMEMP) in the U.A.E. on May 4, 2011. The launch of the Council of Middle East Marketing Professionals (CMEMP) commenced with a networking High Tea, which provided a platform for marketing professionals from diverse industries in the UAE to network and engage with each other. The event acknowledged around 100 guests who were registered as members of CMEMP. The guests were greeted by Dr. Balakrishna Grandhi, Dean of the Executive MBA program at S P Jain.

The inaugural speech by Professor Christopher Abraham, Head of S P Jain's Dubai Campus, included an introduction to the idea behind the setup of the CMEMP and proposed ways to advance this council to higher levels in future. He further addressed the key features of the launch and how members can enhance the council with their own initiatives.

Mr. Mishal Kanoo, Vice Chairman of the Kanoo Group, delivered the keynote address and highlighted the challenges faced by marketers today. He emphasized on the need to walk the talk, and encouraged students and faculty to practice rather than preach marketing.

The 'Marketing Insights from the Frontiers of Neuroscience' was depicted by Dr. Ianna Contardo, Associate Dean of the Global MBA program, who heads the Neuro-Marketing Center of Excellence at S P Jain. In her presentation, she highlighted research results which proved the most successful marketing promotions were those which most actively stimulated the sub- conscious brain. She put forth the vision that such developments in the field of marketing are changing the way marketers speak and the CMEMP as a forum would help leverage knowledge for all participants in order to use these tools effectively. The discussion provided the audience real life examples on the advantages of usage of Neuro-Marketing in reaching out to consumers and evaluating their needs and requirements accurately.

Followed by Dr. Ianna's insights, S P Jain's Global MBA students set the stage for the panel discussion with their presentation on the future of marketing and the evolution of internet marketing. They emphasized the use of social media networks which have effectively transformed the marketing landscape. These tools, as any other, offer the marketers an interesting range of solutions and problems.

The panel discussion was moderated by Prof. Yusuf Tambawala, Associate Professor, Marketing, at S P Jain and the panel included Ms. Mariam Elsamny, Marketing, Product and Corporate Affairs Head, Dunia Finance LLC, Mr. Husam Jandal, Senior Digital Marketing Consultant, WSI and Dr. John Fong, Director of Marketing, The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management. The discussion commenced with a presentation by Professor Yusuf on the "changing brandscape" and future trends in marketing. Ms. Elsamny highlighted the use of a dialogue based IT and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system that allows timely escalations of all customer needs. Mr. Jandal introduced the Phone, Pad and TV as the future screens of marketing.

The panel handled multiple questions from the audience some of which included:

  • Monologue vs. Dialogue in the banking industry and its relevance and consequences.
  • Use of social media in marketing and its benefits
  • Invention vs. Innovation
  • Innovation leading to greater consumer satisfaction
  • Marketing as an art vs. Marketing as science. The importance of human touch

The event concluded with a networking dinner where members of the CMEMP, students and faculty of S P Jain had the opportunity to engage and interact with each other.
