In 1981 the United Nations General Assembly declared September 21, 2011 as “World Peace Day.” This year, freshmen in the Global Bachelor of Business Administration program at the S P Jain School of Global Management celebrated World Peace Day with a passionate “Peace Out” message. The young cohort of students (from twenty-two countries and six continents), who only arrived in Singapore a month ago, came together to put on an exciting lineup of music and drama events, attesting to their commitment to peach and testing their event management capabilities.
The event, hosted by GBBA candidate Prathamesh Tiwari, featured an inspirational video footage of war and peace and was amplified by a live band trio with Anirudh Premkumar at the drums, Nishant Store on the guitar, and Billy Goenewan playing the keyboard. Having experienced the recent riots in London, his hometown, freshmen Josh Jackson delivered a speech on what peace meant for him.
The evening’s lineup included a heart-wrenching dramatic performance about the helplessness of civilians in times of war, and a vocal finale from Avni Nanabhai and Menaka Ramkrishnan singing “Pray for Me Brother” (accompanied by guitarist Shaun Philip). The event concluded with a final message from Nishant Store urging everyone, everywhere, and in every segment of society to promote peace, beginning with themselves.
