The modern city of Dubai was founded in 1799, although Dubai has been mentioned in historical records since 1095, and shows evidence even of Neolithic inhabitants. Most people associate Dubai with oil wealth, but the government has followed a progressive policy of diversification. Today oil accounts for less than 6% of Dubai's revenue, with the bulk of its economy based on trade, financial services, and tourism. Because of its low taxes and free-enterprise zones, Dubai is a trade hub for much of the Middle East. Today it has almost two million inhabitants, and a developing social and cultural life. Dubai offers some of the best education, healthcare, sport and leisure opportunities in the world. The city is also a leader in conference and exhibition industries, and offers outstanding infrastructure, and a state-of-the-art telecommunications network. Census figures indicate that citizens from 188 different nations live in Dubai.

The S P Jain Dubai campus occupies an entire building at the Dubai International Academic City. The DIAC is a purpose-built campus exclusively for colleges and universities. It provides a single location for post-secondary education and hosts 30 institutions from 13 different countries, allowing students and faculty from different institutions to interact with each other. The S P Jain facility is a modern building with hi-tech learning centers, mock trading rooms, an up-do-date library, a video conferencing facility, a Reuters terminal, and more. The in-campus cafeteria, along with the food court of the Academic City, offers multinational cuisine.
